May, June, and July 2025 Wrap-Up
Happy August!
How has everyone’s summer reading been going? I ended up reading one book in May, absolutely nothing in June, and one book in July. I was in Europe for the end of May to mid June, so I decided to combine my reading for July’s wrap-up post. I’m so happy that I got a little break in July to relax, read, and focus on my hobbies. Life has been so busy that I’ve definitely been working more than living 😂 I got a ton of bookmail in the past couple months, so I’m very excited to read it all. You can check out my social media posts for my book hauls.
Editing Update: I had such a fun time with time management, trying to complete 3 editing projects from June 12 - July 2 while working at my other job and having family visiting from abroad. Things slowed down a bit during the last 2 weeks of July, so I got a nice little break, but I’m excited to get back to work! I’m essentially booked until mid October, which is perfect because if you’ve got a spooky manuscript that requires a fresh set of editing eyeballs, then I’d love to hear all about your story! You can try to spook me with your synopsis by contacting me 👻
My Library
I recently got a free bookcase, so I reorganized all of my books. Now everything fits perfectly, but I got a few more books from bookstores during my trip to Saskatoon, so now my limited empty shelf space is depleting quickly 😅
Netgalley eARCs
Now that you can download Netgalley books to your Kobo, I’m starting to read more graphic novels and manga again. I’m so glad the Kobo feature was updated, because now it’s so neat that you can download books directly to your Kobo.
Other (e)ARCs
I’m still reading a few of my ARCs, but I’m really enjoying all of them when I get a chance to read a few pages.
Audiobooks
Hungerstone by Kat Dunn
Review:
I AM OBSESSED. I loved Carmilla, so I was really excited to see an adult-MC version of the story. The author’s note at the end of the book does a great job explaining the theme of hunger in her story, specifically the hungers of women that we’re usually frowned upon for exhibiting. She also explains all the research done for the book and the plot, character, and setting decisions she made. Regarding the story, I loved the sensual aspect and how everything was just so poetic. Everything about this story was just so entrancing, and the narrator made the reading experience so much better. I loved all the twists that happened as well. I was not expecting that ending at all. I’m really curious what happened with Henry’s supposed affair, because things were left a bit vague. Overall, I would definitely reread this book, and I never reread anything. That’s just how good it was. I’m starting to think I have a thing for those gothic, sapphic vampire books 😂
6/5⭐
Don’t Eat the Pie by Monique Asher
Review:
I am so glad I stuck with this audiobook. The beginning was a bit slow and I wasn’t really feeling the story, so I took a bit of a break from it for a week or so. I picked it up again and then got hooked. I loved the horror of the story and the graphic, gory descriptions. They were super creepy! The characters were all interesting to read about, and I liked the POV changes between Emma and her mom. However, at times I really wanted to yell at Sam because she was ignoring some blatantly obvious red flags. The reveal about the town members was a bit predictable, but I still enjoyed every second of it. I would definitely recommend this, but don’t read it while eating pie 😂
