Who Am I?

About the Book Blogger:

Blog Author Pic.jpg

My name is Vanessa and I’m based in Calgary. I started this blog as a quarantine project and it’s now a place where I post monthly book reviews and the occasional foodie or miscellaneous post. You can also find me on Instagram and TikTok under the username @nessas.lair.

Some other things I enjoy are dog watching, cozy gaming, gardening, and hiking. My gardening goal every year is to grow a bigger pumpkin than the year before. So far, my biggest pumpkin has been the size of a honeydew 😂

About the Editor:

I’ve always been an avid reader—I would be the kid who borrowed eighty books at a time from the library. After getting a Bachelor of History from the University of Calgary, I took a marketing and public relations certificate course from U of C in order to expand my skill set. I took all the editing classes available for this course and I was hooked. I wanted to build a career in the publishing world. I also had the opportunity to learn more about publishing through my internship with Parliament House Press. I am now a member of ACES: The Society for Editing, I freelance edit for Podium Entertainment, and I’m a contractor for Tessera Editorial.

Manuscript Wishlist:

I am a fiction editor who edits manuscripts for audiences of all ages, specifically from children to new adults. My favorite genres to edit are fantasy, romance (dark and otherwise), middle-grade, and horror. Some things I love seeing in books: strong female characters, queer characters, the found family trope, fantastical worldbuilding, fairytale retellings, spooky vibes, enemies-to-lovers, and great banter.
