February 2023 Wrap-Up

February 2023 Wrap-Up

Happy birthday month to me!

Emo dog pic of the month!

February was such a fun month for reading! I felt like I read more than I actually did, but that’s probably because I actually read a little bit everyday, even if it was just for five minutes at a time 😅 I managed to read five books and I didn’t finish any audiobooks. I participated in the F*cking February Smutathon run by @bookishly_vintage, with fun graphics designed by @zoereadss. Thanks to all the great smutty recs in the group chat, I ended up greatly expanding my personal smut collection 😂 I can’t wait to read everything, and for me, I feel like the smutathon will continue into March and April.

In terms of editing, I have some spots available for the end of March and the entirety of April, so if you’re looking for an editor, check out my Editing Services page and fill out the form 😊

February was also the month of the YYC Hot Chocolate Festival. This year, I got to try a ton of delicious hot chocolates, so stay tuned for my blog post reviewing every drink I tried! Now, onto my book reviews lol.

My Library

Sabriel by Garth Nix

Review:

I started this book because @coffeeandbookswithali has hyped it up so much. However, I must not be craving a fantasy like this at the moment, because I tried to start it but couldn’t get into the story. I managed to make it to around four chapters in when I ended up putting the book down to start something else. I do want to give it another go, but that’ll probably be months away.

TBD⭐

My Monster Secret Vol. 1 by Eiji Masuda

Review:

I randomly picked this manga from my library and it was surprisingly fun! Asahi and Shiragami are such a wacky pair. Mikan is wild 😅 But she's super entertaining and a really intense character. The cream puff part was hilarious and I loved the little bonus comics at the end. I didn't think I'd enjoy this as much as I did. I'd love to continue the series and see if Asahi ever gets to confess his love.

4/5⭐

Priest by Sierra Simone

Review:

I’m OBSESSED. This was such an amazing dark romance, and forgive me Father for I now have the hots for Tyler Bell. He and Poppy had such great chemistry and, excuse me while I go fan myself, because their scenes together were fire. I loved Tyler’s revelations near the end of the book about his career and priesthood, and the ending was so satisfying. I’ll definitely be checking out the next book in the series because Chapter 1 was included in this book and I’m already hooked.

5/5⭐

Wet Hot Allosaurus Summer by Lola Faust

Review:

This was one hella wacky story, and my face expression was constantly like wtf 🤣 The dino was an electrical engineer. Like, wtf 😅 There's also a mild gory part that surprised me. The smut was ok and the ending was super abrupt. I'm curious what happens to the girl at the end, because her adventure is definitely not over 😂 This also has excerpts from other dino books in the series, but the first two are wild. I thought the dino love tips were hilarious. Overall, this book is just so wonky, so if you want some fun, weird smut, check this out 🤣

3/5⭐

Netgalley eARCs

Everything is Fine Vol. 1 by Mike Birchall

Review:

This comic was right up my alley! It was so freaky and disturbing and I LOVED IT. I got chills reading this because it was so unnerving. I have no words aside from, "it's a creepy masterpiece, go read it."

5/5⭐

Other (e)ARCs

From Edelweiss

Witch of Mine Vol. 1 by Haeyoon

Review:

I expected this story to go a totally different way, so I was a bit surprised with how things turned out. The whole book has a pretty slow pace so I was kinda bored for the first half. I found myself putting the book down multiple times to read something more interesting. However, the file was expiring soon and I had to finish it and I’m glad I did. The second half is just so sad and rips out your heart. It’s all a bunch of love and loss. There were some parts that were confusing to follow, like the parts with Cordelia and their grandmother, so I ended up skimming those parts. Parts of the story are also told from the POV of other characters, so while the plot is slow, there’s a lot going on at times. Overall, this is an interesting story with some good emotional bits, but I definitely won’t be continuing with the series.

3/5⭐

Audiobooks

Wishtress by Nadine Brandes

Review:

I started listening to this because I have heard so many great things about Nadine’s books. This is such a great story so far, and I’m almost finished. Based on what I’ve heard so far, I highly recommend this!

TBD⭐

That’s a wrap! I’m excited to see what fun reads March has in store. If you had any 5-star reads in February, I’d love to know what they were! Let me know in the comments below .

Happy reading 😊
