S'mores Dip

S'mores Dip

Hey foodies!

A couple days ago I attempted to make a super easy recipe and royally screwed it up. Here’s my story:

Disclaimer: I basically just made this recipe as a way to toast marshmallows in a safe and edible way that did not involve a campfire.

Anyhoo, I looked at a few recipes for S’mores Dip online and there were so many variations of how to make this simple dessert. Since I was doing this for the marshmallows, I used whatever chocolate chips I currently had at home. In my case, I had a pack of milk chocolate Chipits and some leftover mini Chipits. This was my first mistake.

Can you tell how hard this chocolate is?

This kind of chocolate DID NOT melt nicely, so pick a different chocolate like Ghirardelli’s if you decide to make this. I set my oven to 350*F and put the chocolate chips in a metal baking dish. I put it in the oven for approximately 20 minutes and the chocolate wasn’t melting, so I decided to take it out, transfer the chocolate to a bowl, add a little bit of milk and butter, and microwave it until it melted. This was mistake number 2.

For some reason, when I took the chocolate out of the microwave, it was melted but it was thickening up and getting super crumbly real fast. I decided to just give up because it still tasted delicious, and I transferred it back into the metal dish. I added a layer of marshmallows on top, set the oven to LOW broiler mode, and put the dish into the oven. I thought that since I put the broiler on low, it would take a bit longer to toast the marshmallows so I left it in there for about a minute or 2. This was my third mistake.

I returned to the oven and found my marshmallows burnt black and smoking so I quickly took them out to assess the damage. I decided to just remove the burnt layer and re-toast the remaining marshmallows. This time I still used the low broil setting but I sat there watching my marshmallows toast and took them out the second I saw them starting to brown. They came out great this time! Finally success…kind of.

Since the chocolate part was a total fail, this was not really a s’mores dip, but more of a clumpy thing to put on a graham cracker. It was so hard to scoop out the chocolate and marshmallows because the chocolate was hardened and crumbly and the marshmallows made everything stick together. I finally managed to get it all on a graham cracker, I drizzled some chocolate sauce on it, and I ate it. Overall it tasted delicious, it was just an absolute horror to make 😂

Let me know in the comments if you’ve ever made this or if you would like to try making it (properly, don’t be like me). I’d love to hear about your results 😊

Enjoy your sugar coma!
