September 2026 Wrap-Up
Happy November!
I guess super late is better than never, so here’s my September wrap-up 😅I managed to finish 3 books and 1 audiobook. I may also try a new format for my wrap-ups since I’m having a hard time posting them on time. Do y’all have any tips on how to easily format your wrap-ups or just format your reviews without writing paragraphs? Let me know in the comments! Teach me your ways 😂
Editing Update: I’ve been HELLA BUSY with editing work. I tend to never say no to a project unless absolutely necessary, or if I’m not a good fit for the project, so I may have slightly overbooked myself in October. At one point, I had 4 projects going at the same time while being a judge for Writing Battle. I’m extremely proud of myself though, because I met all my deadlines without needing to lose any sleep or skip meals, and I still found time to socialize. Even though I had multiple projects going at the same time, I focused on each one individually so I didn’t have to switch back and forth. I also thrive in stressful situations, so I had a lot of fun pushing myself and seeing just how much I could manage. My November workload is a lot lighter, so I’ll welcome the break. I’m also pretty booked until February, but if you have any fun manuscripts you’re working on, I’d love to hear about them here 😄
My Library
The Elsewhere Express by Samantha Sotto Yambao
Review:
I borrowed this one from the library because I kept getting sucked in by the pretty cover but wasn’t sure I’d enjoy the story after reading the synopsis. I’m so glad I ended up picking it up though, cause it turned out to be a pretty good book! It honestly reads like a fever dream and has a bit of a darker undertone than I expected. I loved the whimsical descriptions of the train; I would totally love to explore the train if it existed. The story was a bit convoluted as there seemed to be so many layers as to what was going on, so it kept me interested in the plot, but not enough that I was emotionally invested in the story. I thought it was a pretty decent story, and I was happy to see it was also written by a Filipina 🥳

Under the Oak Tree Comic Vol. 1 by Suji Kim
Review:
I loved the first couple novels that I’ve read so far, so I was curious if I’d enjoy the comic version as well. I did! I thought Riftan’s love toward Maxi was portrayed so much better in the comic because you could see his facial expressions and reactions to everything, and you could really see how awkward he was with expressing his emotions. It was so adorable! I think the storyline is essentially the same as the novels, so now I’m conflicted about whether I want to continue reading the series in novel form or comic form. Which version of the story did you enjoy?

Women Without Men by Shahrnush Parsipur
Review:
I picked this book up because I saw a review about it online and it looked like a very interesting read. I love reading about different experiences of women, especially around the world in cultures that differ from Caucasians in Canada. The way women can be feminists in Iran is vastly different than how we can express ourselves here, but every action counts, no matter how small. The fantastical aspects of the book were a bit harder to follow. The Author’s Note was enlightening and made everything more real since the women in the book were based off women the author knew in her life. I’d highly recommend checking this book out! I also learned there’s a movie based on this book, so now I’ll be checking that out as well.

Audiobooks
Startup Hell by Caitlin Rozakis
Review:
This book was such a relatable story about the slog that is corporate life. I loved how it was basically about trying to survive working in corporate while falling in love with a demon. The main characters had such great chemistry and I was rooting for them for the entire book. I loved how their romance was just very subtle. Rex, the demon doggo, was probably my favorite character as he was just a chaotic sweetheart. I honestly love anything by Rozakis, so I definitely enjoyed this book.
